The View from  Arbor House on Lake Tomahawk

Looking for a special place to take your sweetheart for Valentine’s Day 2018? Get away to Black Mountain.

Explore the Mountains

Take your honey on a hike to enjoy the natural beauty of the mountains. Stop by Take a Hike downtown to pick up a map of area hiking trails. Pack a picnic for a rest by a stream or at an overlook; get delicious sandwiches “to go” at Veranda Café or Dark City Deli on Cherry Street. Or join a guided hike sponsored by the Swannanoa Valley Museum (check the schedule).

Shop in Historic Downtown

Stroll the picturesque downtown historic district for handcrafted gifts made with love. Locally owned specialty shops, art galleries, and antique shops offer handmade pottery, home accessories, jewelry, and much more. And if you’re ready for a symbol of commitment, Visions of Creation Gallery’s Roberto Vengoechea can lead you and your Valentine through a ring-making class!

Drink a Toast to Your Love

Sample the craft brews of the region with a beer flight at Trailhead Restaurant (17 taps) or Black Mountain Ale House (19 taps) downtown. Or visit local breweries Pisgah Brewing and Lookout Brewing. Or if wine is more your style, The Merry Wine Market can recommend the perfect wine pairing or a bubbly champagne and offers bouquets of locally grown flowers by Bloom in the days prior to Valentine’s Day.

Enjoy Dinner for Two

More than 30 independent restaurants in Black Mountain suit a wide variety of tastes, and some offer special dinners in honor of Valentine’s Day. Specializing in Argentinian and French cuisine, La Guinguette is offering a five-course prix fixe menu on Valentine’s evening. The Artisan Gourmet Market and Berliner Kindl German Restaurant are each featuring a three-course prix fixe Valentine’s dinner, and Foothills Butcher Bar has a four-course dinner.

Take in a Show or Concert

Celebrate love with the Americana acoustic music of Zoe & Cloyd at Black Mountain Center for the Arts, Saturday, February 10, or enjoy the music of the big band era with the Asheville Jazz Orchestra on Friday, February 9, at White Horse Black Mountain.

Relax in a B&B

Stay the night in a cozy bed and breakfast. Arbor House on Lake Tomahawk offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. The Inn Around the Corner and The Red Rocker Inn are within easy walking distance of downtown. Inn Around the Corner is offering free champagne for those who stay for Valentine’s Day. At Red Rocker, buy one night and get your second night at half price through February 28 (excludes Feb. 23-24), and ask for FREE chocolate-dipped strawberries with any room from February 9-17. Not far out of town in the Pisgah National Forest, the Inn on Mill Creek offers discounted rates and complimentary chocolates with a stay of two nights or more, February 9-18.
